The SENSIMED Triggerfish^® continuous ocular monitoring system is a CE marked and FDA approved device that provides insights into ocular volume changes throughout the day and night. The device includes a smart contact lens that captures spontaneous changes in the eye providing physicians with valuable information that can help guide glaucoma treatment. The device is non-invasive and allows patients to assume their normal activities.

Project Challenge and Solutions

Our customer designed and developed the device consisting of a soft, non-invasive contact lens which encapsulates a telemetric gauge sensor. The external system consists of an adhesive antenna worn on the patient’s face and linked to a portable recording device. Besides the innovation and complexity of the product, our customer set a tight project schedule that involved intense development collaboration between our teams.

Valtronic adapted the customer’s process for industrialization in a dedicated environment controlled clean room. The project also benefited from Valtronic’s experience in the assembly of an ASIC and a MEMS on a flexible substrate. A very complex high precision process was then used to over mold these parts with silicone to shape the device.
